When a social worker from an authority in Vienna approached us and asked for help, we had no idea what was in store for us. Originally, we were asked to take in around 80 budgerigars and cockatiels. An impressive number of animals, but at the time it still seemed quite harmless. The Gut Aiderbichl team set off on their journey and it was only when they arrived that they really realized the extent of the distress. The owner had been completely overwhelmed with the care of her animals. In the end, the 80 animals originally mentioned became 323 animals that we were able to rescue from the apartment - animal welfare is also human welfare.
