Because Herzog's mother died shortly after giving birth, the owner family's daughter raised the bay colt with a bottle. However, when there was no more room for Herzog on the family's farm, she decided to give the very human-oriented foal away. A place was soon found for Herzog at a sanctuary, but the family soon had a bad feeling. They got in touch again and learned that the foal was to be sold there again. However, they could not and did not want to live with this uncertainty, so they turned to Gut Aiderbichl.
