Chicken Ida
Laying-hen
Ida, Lotti, Gisela, Henriette and Kiki were put out to pasture and were to be slaughtered. They were laying hens and were not kept well. The task of laying hens is to lay eggs. This is often done under terrible circumstances. If, for whatever reason, the hens no longer perform as well as they should, they are taken out and slaughtered. Most of the time, they come from a husbandry where nobody is interested in the natural needs of a chicken: they want to sleep on a perch or in a tree, they love to peck at the grass and forage for their food. Nobody cares how smart a chicken is either. They are supposed to lay eggs.
