We are grateful that mare Kathrin did not witness the horror that her mother Evelyn had to endure. Evelyn was kept together with 18 other Haflingers in a dark stable with manure up to the ceiling. But how could this happen? This question is always asked in such cases. The solution is stricter laws and more comprehensive clarification. In the case of Evelyn and her fellow sufferers, the owner probably decided to lock the animals up. It was to take 8 years before the animals were confiscated by the veterinary office. Evelyn gave birth to her little daughter Kathrin at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf.
