Cattle Leona

Leona belongs to the aurochs breed, which is more of a back-breeding. The real original cattle, from which more than 500 breeds of cattle descend, have long since been wiped out by humans. When we heard about a herd of 17 head of aurochs that were to be slaughtered, we wanted to help, as this wonderful breed is still threatened with extinction today. Leona was born at Gut Aiderbichl, but her mother had abandoned her and was not looking after the little calf. Our keepers took on this task and raised her. Unfortunately, she is a lot smaller than her conspecifics, but that doesn't bother us - we love her anyway.
