When her mother Ida came to Gut Aiderbichl in 2018, we didn't know that the Zackelschafdame was pregnant. In February, we were surprised with little Maya. The Hungarian Zackelschaf has probably existed for around 5,000 years. Until the 18th century, it was the predominant breed of sheep in Hungary, but was also widespread throughout the Alpine region during the time of the monarchy. It is the last surviving breed of sheep with helical horns. The extremely hardy sheep were originally bred to provide milk and meat for the Hungarian nomads.
