When we heard about a herd of 17 head of aurochs that were to be slaughtered, we wanted to help and brought the small herd to Gut Aiderbichl Kilb. This breed is something special, as they are a back-breeding of the aurochs and are also threatened with extinction. Sammy was born at Gut Aiderbichl, but his mother had abandoned him and did not take care of the little calf. Our keepers took on this task and raised him. Unfortunately, he is a lot smaller than his conspecifics, but that doesn't bother us - we love him anyway.
