Our alpacas
Why are there alpacas at Gut Aiderbichl?
In recent years, llamas and alpacas have become increasingly popular “trend animals.” Guided alpaca walks are growing in popularity, and more and more people are choosing to keep these camelids privately. Their calm nature and friendly appearance make them especially appealing.
However, caring for these animals is more demanding than many expect. They require plenty of space, proper nutrition, regular care, and – as herd animals – companionship with others of their kind. Many owners underestimate these needs or eventually find themselves unable to care for the animals properly.
As a result, many llamas and alpacas end up in distress – neglected, surrendered due to financial hardship, or seized by animal welfare authorities. At Gut Aiderbichl, these animals find a safe and species-appropriate new home. They live among their peers, receive veterinary care, and are lovingly looked after – giving them a true second chance.
