Our cattle
Why are there cattle at Gut Aiderbichl?
Many of our cattle have had moving fates. Cow Yvonne, for example, fled from death, and bull Bandit had to spend his life on a chain. Many of our animals come from industrial farming, where they only have value if they ‘produce’. At Gut Aiderbichl, however, they are not farm animals, but living beings who deserve a dignified life. Here they can simply be, without pressure or obligation.
We rescue calves that have no chance of a good life in agriculture – because they were born small, blind or without eyes. These animals are unsuitable for breeding and dairy farming, but fortunately more and more farmers are bringing them to us instead of sending them to slaughter. We are delighted by this change in attitude and it shows that our work is having an impact.
We are also committed to old and endangered breeds such as the Hungarian grey cattle, which are being displaced by industrial farming. At Gut Aiderbichl, they find a place of love, care and respect. Here they live according to their nature.
