Our donkeys
Why are there donkeys at Gut Aiderbichl?
Donkeys are quiet but tough animals, known for their patience and endurance. Some are a little stubborn, which makes them very endearing and special in character. They are a great favourite with the public. There are more than 100 living on our estates, many with colourful pasts. Some were brought to us in a catastrophic condition – often neglected animals from animal hoarding, whose fur and hooves tell of mistreatment.
We are particularly proud of our white K.u.K. donkeys, an endangered breed with mesmerising steel-blue eyes. Some donkeys have physical disabilities or are blind, but that doesn’t stop them from happily trotting around the farmyards with the other donkeys and being delighted by the visitors.
Euthanising them is not an option for us – Gut Aiderbichl is known for this. When things get difficult, the animals come to us. Gut Aiderbichl is a forever home for animals – even animals with disabilities get a second chance here.
