Our parakeets
Why are there parakeets at Gut Aiderbichl?
Parakeets are extremely sociable animals – they need at least one conspecific, preferably a whole flock. But parakeets are also noisy. Anyone who only has two of these small birds at home can probably tell you a thing or two about it. Persistent complaints from neighbours are often the reason for giving the birds away.
A spacious cage and regular free flight are essential for parakeets. Unfortunately, however, they are often not kept in a species-appropriate manner. Time and again, official inspections are carried out. For example, we received a request to take in around 80 parakeets because the owner was unable to cope with keeping them. However, it turned out on site that the actual number of animals was far higher: A total of 323 parakeets became Aiderbichlers that day. We have set up a large aviary at Gut Aiderbichl where these parakeets have found a new, species-appropriate home. They visibly feel at home in their flock and enjoy their lives to the full.
