Our peacocks
Why are there peacocks at Gut Aiderbichl?
Peacocks fascinate people with their magnificent plumage and impressive behavior. But what is often underestimated: These animals are very social, need conspecifics and have a pronounced desire for freedom. They are also anything but quiet – especially during the mating season. Their loud call can be heard over long distances. What is an impressive “song” for peacock lovers is often perceived as disturbing “screaming” in residential areas and often means that peacocks can no longer be kept. At Gut Aiderbichl, these majestic animals have found a species-appropriate home where they can move freely without their natural call disturbing anyone.
Some of our peacocks were even born here. Their parents came to us, among other things, because they were given as a well-intentioned but unthought-out gift. A loving gesture – but animals as gifts are never a good idea, especially if the recipients do not have the necessary conditions for keeping them in a species-appropriate environment.
