Our pigeons
Why are there pigeons at Gut Aiderbichl?
Pigeons are part of the cityscape in urban centres. Nevertheless, they are often labelled as ‘problem animals’, mainly because of their uncontrolled reproduction. For this reason, we repeatedly receive requests from cities asking us to take in some of the animals. However, it is not only cities that regularly ask Gut Aiderbichl to take in pigeons, but also private owners who are no longer able to care for their pigeons for a variety of reasons.
The reputation of Gut Aiderbichl Eslarn (Our commitment to pigeons) precedes it: the first pigeon house was opened there in 2021. It offers space for up to 1,000 animals and has developed into a real showcase project for species-appropriate pigeon keeping. Due to the constantly growing demand, another pigeon house three times the size was opened in 2023. Up to 3,000 pigeons will find a safe and species-appropriate home here. This project is unique in its form and size in Europe.
