Our rabbits
Why are there rabbits at Gut Aiderbichl?
A bag found early in the morning at Gut Aiderbichl – with three baby rabbits cowering inside. A dwarf rabbit discovered by walkers in the forest – such stories are not uncommon. Many of the rabbits that come to us have been abandoned and left to their fate. Unfortunately, many people still underestimate that keeping pets also means responsibility – often for many years.
It is no surprise that rabbits reproduce quickly and grow into a large family. Time and again we see cases where the rabbit population grows so rapidly that there is no longer enough space. This is often due to incorrect sexing. Although experts determine the sex of the animals, mix-ups can occur time and again. This is particularly difficult with young animals, as the sexual organs are often not yet fully developed at around four weeks of age.
Requests for rabbits are increasing. But our space is also limited. That is why we only place rabbits with a lifelong special care place. However, it should be noted that rabbits are group animals and should not be kept alone.
