Our turkeys

Why are there turkeys at Gut Aiderbichl?

Turkey meat is popular in many countries – but not everyone sees these animals as just food. Time and again, turkeys are rescued from slaughter because people do not want to accept their fate as “roast turkey”. Some of these animals have found a safe home at Gut Aiderbichl after being bought free to give them a species-appropriate and carefree life.

Keeping turkeys presents challenges. Not only are they animals that love to move around, but they can also be very noisy – a fact that is not appreciated by all neighbors. It is therefore important to consider the local conditions and possible restrictions before purchasing a turkey. Even if the owner’s living situation changes or it turns out that the animals cannot be kept appropriately, a new place often has to be found for them.
