Adi has gone to heaven - desert

Adi was our sensitive one among the dromedaries. He had been kept in isolation for years, was not socialised and was afraid of people.

In 2019, it was a rainy July day, Adi, Rahel, Mali and Bibi came to Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf from a camel farm. Rahel was clearly the boss of the group, and as long as she didn't leave the van, all the other dromedaries didn't go into the stable either. Eventually the time came. It remains an unforgettable moment, the arrival of the desert ships at Gut Aiderbichl.

Adi's story was tragically described by the camel farm operator. He came from an isolated background and this time had also left its mark on his psyche. If you imagine that camels are herd animals, you come to the conclusion that Adi's lonely ordeal left its mark on his soul. He was the most sensitive dromedary in the small group. With a lot of love and patience, Adi got used to life at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf and welcomed everyone in his gallant, gentle way.

Adi loved it when you stroked his long neck, held your nose to his nose, stroked him under the eyes, put your head against his belly. It was as if he was talking to us. His eyes looked soft and understanding and you also had the impression that he was smiling. Adi always knew when he was being talked about: he stopped, positioned himself at his small height and chewed comfortably.

A few days ago it was like always: Adi, Mali and Bibi were out in the pasture and everything was fine. In the evening, we found Adi peacefully asleep in his favourite meadow. Completely surprised and stunned, we stood with him together with Bibi and Mali. Adi's heart had stopped beating.

As quietly and gently as he had lived the last few years, he left - without warning. Torn from the midst of life. His two dromedary girls mourn him very much.

"If you seek me, seek me in your heart. Once I have found a home there, I will always be with you.
Take care of my Mali and Bibi..."

You will remain unforgotten for all of us. As long as I can, I will tell people about our Adi. About your special nature, your empathetic eyes and the minutes I was allowed to spend in your stable to find peace with you. I was allowed to whisper worries and joys into your patient ears.

Thank you for teaching us what wonderful animals camels are. Take care and walk with Rahel, who preceded you a few years ago, across the warm desert sands in heaven.
Goodbye, Adi.
