Obituary Flora

Flora now trots in horse heaven

On the 6th of August 2005, Michael Aufhauser made his way to Munich to buy numerous horses and goats at a horse market. One of these special horses was the Haflinger mare Flora.

From the very beginning, Gut Aiderbichl has seen it as one of its tasks to give slaughter horses with a wide variety of biographies a protected forever-home until the end of their days. When horses and other large animals live at Gut Aiderbichl until the end of their lives, this places special demands on their keeping. They should feel as happy as they do with private owners. Our horse keepers take care of the rescued horses from the moment they are taken in until their last breath and give them all their care and love.

So it was a pleasure to be there for Flora when dealing with her. Flora had been grateful from the first hour that she could leave the horse market. Her future would probably have been very uncertain.

For many years, she could be in the pastures with her peers. It was beautiful when she stood there, let the sun pamper her and her beautiful blond mane played with the wind. There was always a little melancholy in her eyes, but she was good-natured and loved the people around her.

Flora suffered more and more from her hoof cancer. Bravely and patiently she kept her hooves ready for the treatments. She patiently accepted the cleaning and the application of the many good ointments with honey, because she knew that no one wanted to cause her pain.

Flora lived up to her beautiful name. Delicate and supple like a flower, she stood there and let herself be groomed and stroked - her world was fine so far. Suddenly a terrible colic announced itself and Flora was found lying down. There was suspicion of intestinal twisting and as soon as possible Flora was driven to the clinic. She was operated on and there were signs of slight stability.
Our caregivers were always with Flora to check on her, but it was clear to everyone that she had gone on her way to leave the world behind. All her people were with her as she slowly closed her eyes and the last breath gently announced her way to the Rainbow Bridge.

Dear Flora,
you will be greatly missed by all: the horses around you and your caretakers. You were a special flower and will continue to bloom in our memories. Simply because you were so special with us. Thank you for letting us get to know you.

Take care, Flora.

"If you are looking for me, look for me in your heart. If I have found a dwelling place there, I am always with you".
