Obituary horse Christa

A Haflinger lady has gone over the rainbow bridge

"I love you, I miss you, I'll try to look up." (from: "The Little Prince")

The Haflinger mare Christa was not beautiful enough for breeding, and so she should have made the journey to a horse slaughterhouse in Italy a few years ago together with other horses.

In a former courtyard passage, we came across a large horse stall where four Haflingers lived: Christa, Karin, Hansl and Ottmar. During their daily walks, the horses were pampered daily with apples and carrots by an animal-loving lady. One day she learned that the Haflinger horses were to be taken to the slaughterhouse. The solution for the horses' continued life was to make them Aiderbichlers.

The Haflinger horses moved in about 10 years ago, and since then live in the paradisiacal facility of Gut Aiderbichl in France. Over 120 rescued horses live a good life here, and there are only a few among them that were not destined for the slaughterhouse and found their haven of peace in Moulins.

Christa enjoyed the peace and quiet, the tall, old trees in the grounds of Gut Aiderbichl in France. Together with her friends Karin, Hansl and Ottmar, she belonged to a Haflinger group that never caused any problems. On the contrary, they were four equine diplomats who were simply happy and content.

Christa's glorious blonde mane was one of her trademarks. She loved to stand in the wind - no matter if it was summer or winter - and leave the long, thick mane to the forces of nature. She closed her eyes with pleasure and smiled a contented horse smile when the warm rays of the sun caressed her body. Christa was just grateful and let the grooms and also the farrier do their necessary work. No matter if groom, vet or farrier - since the rescue from the butcher, nothing and nobody upset her anymore. Christa rested in herself and stood above things.

We were shocked when Christa was found dead a few days ago. The regular veterinary examinations had never diagnosed any health problems - the shock was deep. All the horses that Christa had accompanied as a friend, as well as the people, were deeply saddened about Christa's sudden death.

Dear Christa,

we are very sad and shocked that our Haflinger girl has decided to walk over the Rainbow Bridge.
You showed us humans once again that animals are great at forgiving, and were grateful every day for your life in paradise at Gut Aiderbichl in France. You are missed especially by Karin, Hansl and Ottmar and we will take special care of your friends. Take care, Christa, and look now and then from horse heaven at the little spot of earth in Moulins, where you were able to spend many wonderful years.

A horse forgets nothing, but forgives everything.

Thank you for letting us be there for you.
