Little Ricki

Our little Ricki has fallen asleep forever

"Small but mighty" - this really applies to little Ricki. I have never come across a bolder, charismatic and loving dog than this little lady with the strong heart. But this heart has now grown tired after more than 15 years. Another witness of our times, who faithfully accompanied me and Michael Aufhauser for years, has now passed away. Our little Ricki has fallen asleep forever.

When I met Ricki, she was only a few months old. At that time, she knew nothing, because together with 68 other animals, she was living in a small mobile home. The animal owners had come from Hungary with their animals and wanted to continue to Berlin. On their way, they stopped at Gut Aiderbichl - their great fortune. Guests became aware of the women after they were offered puppies.

All the dogs were severely dehydrated, weak and in some cases closer to death than life. Thanks to the efforts of the Gut Aiderbichl team and Michael Aufhauser, all the dogs could be helped. But nobody wanted to give little Ricki and her cousin Lulu a chance. Nobody except Michael Aufhauser and me. With us they have found a home and a wonderful life!

It quickly became clear that Ricki was not only sweet, but also self-confident and strong in character. This dog knew early what she wanted and knew how to draw attention to herself. She never saw her size as a disadvantage - she knew how to use this supposed weakness to her advantage. Almost three kilos of concentrated self-confidence.

Many visitors had lost their heart to her. And proudly she presented herself in front of the guests and always enjoyed moving freely about the estate. Excursions with Michael Aufhauser were the greatest thing for her. But she did not miss the opportunity to look after things in the office.

Ricki was never a child of sadness, there were always beautiful days for her and if they were "cloudy", then she made them beautiful. When I think of my little Ricki, I think of her courage, her cheerfulness, her big heart and the beautiful moments we experienced together. Looking back, I would go so far as to call our little sunshine an alpha dog.

For a long time she was able to keep her cheerfulness, but in the last few weeks she got worse and worse. Her little heart started to have problems, she coughed a lot and the little lively dog became a senior citizen. Despite the medication, it didn't get better, rather worse. When the day of days came, I looked into her eyes and realised - Ricki couldn't take it anymore. Loudly, as was her way, she tried to tell me that the time had come. But it was important for her to hide her beloved chewing bone from the other dogs.

I called her carers, who all got into the car and rushed over. Everyone wanted to accompany Ricki on a small part of her last journey, no one wanted to leave her alone. Peacefully, Ricki fell asleep forever and went to an even better world.

Dear Ricki, thank you for letting me get to know you. Also for your deep friendship and your companionship. I was able to learn so much from you and will never forget you!

"When your little heart stopped beating, a star began to shine very brightly. You are no longer where you were, but you are everywhere we are. Whenever we talk about you, rays of sunshine fall on our hearts. Life is limited, but the memory is infinite".
