Obituary Dario and Biggy
Two Aiderbichler with a special story
The situation of strays, abandoned cats or sick and old cats that are handed in to Gut Aiderbichl has occupied our animal emergency centre for many years. Gut Aiderbichl aims to provide information about the situation of domestic and foreign cats and also runs a cat neutering project in the Salzburg area.
Often we also become the forever home for animals that come to us from hot southern countries. People who love animals always look after them, even on holiday. Patsy was discovered in Croatia thirteen years ago. It was scorching hot and Patsy appeared to be pregnant. There was no loving home far and wide where Patsy could have given birth to her babies.
Patsy’s rescuers took action and organised all the papers needed to enter Austria. The black catwith the mysterious green eyes could move into Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf, but there wereof course precautions to be takenin doing so. Nobody knew how good or bad Patsy’s immune system was and therefore also that of the unborn kittens. In order not to introduce any diseases, Patsy moved into our offices and gave birth to Dario, Luka and Rino. Now the happiness of the abandoned, brave mother cat from Croatia was perfect.
Dario was a marvellously handsome cat and a keen observer. He let his beautiful cat eyes roam calmly and calmly and observed what was going on in the cat living room at Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf.
Dario was always out and about exploring. He also liked to be a little cheeky, cheeky and boisterous with the animal keepers. He was a mischievous boy in cat form.
Dario loved emptying the cat bowls. At the age of 13, we realised that something was wrong with his health. The plump cat Dario became a narrow cat with dull fur.
Various veterinary examinations revealed that Dario had problems with his digestive tract. Of particular concern was the cancer that had affected his intestines. An operation was not recommended due to a heart defect, as it would have cost him too much energy. The animal carers knew what to expect. He fell asleep calmly and peacefully on the lap of his carer Sabine. A unique cat with a unique character walked on his tired little velvet paws over the Rainbow Bridge to the land where his mum and his siblings Luka and Rino were waiting for him.
At almost the same time, the cat Biggy died at Gut Aiderbichl in Iffeldorf. In 2009, at the tender age of one month, Biggy was abandoned together with her brother on our farm in Henndorf. The owner was probably not interested in the fact that a person who abandons an animal is liable to prosecution.
Biggy developed a very extravagant character and didn’t do anything she didn’t want to. She also had her techniques for showing people what she didn’t like about them.
Biggy’s old age made her weaker and more susceptible to illness. She spent her last days in hospital, where she died due to kidney failure. Her keeper stroked her gently and tenderly until Biggy had closed her tired eyes forever.
It is those who have nothing who give us everything that is priceless.

Dear Dario, dear Biggy,
Your story has a lot in common. Dario was lucky that his mum was rescued by animal-loving people before he and his siblings were even born. This meant that you, Dario, were able to grow up in your protected and safe Gut Aiderbichl home from the very beginning, while Biggy was heartlessly abandoned. The cats in the cat living room are still looking for a new boss, dear Dario. You seem to be irreplaceable not only for the humans, but also for your fellow cats.
Your start in life, dear Biggy, was not a great one, but you have always shown elegance and assertiveness. We miss you. We will never stop talking about how much cats suffer when they are treated disrespectfully. You have both forgiven the humans – goodbye dear Dario and dear Biggy.
