Obituary Nikky
The favourite sound in the world is the purr of a cat. - Unknown
Cat Nikky was only three months old when he was found. He was walking through the forest all alone, hoping for help. Nikky was lucky: an Aiderbichl employee discovered him near Gut Aiderbichl Deggendorf and looked around to see if his mum was anywhere to be found.
Nikky looked at his rescuer with searching, heartbroken eyes. He was trembling and hungry and he felt that his life would go on with the help of this human. After a few days, it was certain that little Nikky had been abandoned.
Nikky knew from an early age what was important in life
… never give up, believe in the good and enjoy life. From the very first minute, Nikky knew that his saviour meant well for him. It was 16 years ago in September when little Nikky moved into Gut Aiderbichl in Deggendorf.
Nikky spent the first few days under the protection of his human, but as time went by, the beautiful cat became more and more courageous and wanted to get to know his new, safe home. Every day, the tomcat walked from one stable to the next, but there was one he particularly liked – the horse stable at Gut Aiderbichl in Deggendorf.
There’s nothing that doesn’t exist – Nikky the cat fell in love with Lisa the horse
Nikky was shy towards humans. Only when it came to food and petting was his shyness quickly gone like a bird. Nikky melted in front of his great love, the Haflinger horse Lisa, and he didn’t care at all about Lisa’s superior height.
Lisa herself already had a special story. She came to Gut Aiderbichl when her owner passed away. She had previously spent her life with a goat, so at some point Lisa thought she was a goat. Her late owner had taught the horse little tricks, so she lifted her front legs on command and gave kisses.
She had a great, close friendship with the stable cat Nikky. She scratched Nikky’s fur with her horse nose and Nikky licked Lisa’s nose in return. When he had had enough of the caresses, he would defend himself with his little paw and leave again. This ritual was celebrated daily until Lisa’s death.
Nicky’s eyes looked to the other shore
Nicky’s health suddenly took a turn for the worse. Unfortunately, we lost the vets’ race for his life. X-rays showed that Nikky’s digestive tract was causing him major problems, as well as sudden breathing difficulties. A new examination revealed a tumour in his larynx, which prevented him from breathing easily. Once again, as with all animals that are dying for various reasons, the animal keepers sat there and were deeply saddened.
Nikky jointly decided to put him down. Tired but peaceful, Nikky laid his head on a carer’s lap and fell asleep forever. Very quietly, his soul seemed to say goodbye to the other side.
Dear Nikky,
We will always remember how happy you were that you always found your food, lots of cuddles and your great love Lisa at Gut Aiderbichl in Deggendorf. It was a very special encounter with you both every day. We are also grateful that there are always people who look and do not look away and thus help abandoned animals through active commitment.
We will not point the finger of blame at people who, for whatever reason, abandon animals and leave them to fend for themselves, but will educate them to recognise what an atrocious act it is for humans to abandon and torture a living being in any way.
Farewell, dear Nikky – you remain deep in our hearts.
