Obituary wild boar Rebecca
It was handed over to the hunter 12 years ago
There are things between heaven and earth that people sometimes don’t understand because they don’t fit into their way of thinking. EThere are always little miracle stories about rescued animals. You may remember the story about the “butcher with a heart”, now comes Rebecca’s story, in which a hunter shows hearteand gives five youngsters to his sister to be raisedto save his sister abgaveto him, because he didn’t want to kill her.
Five newborns were waiting in the sow’s litter
Where was the brook (the youngsters’ mum)? Rebecca and her siblings had had a stroke of luck. Foresters had discovered five newborns with umbilical cords and afterbirths in the brook’s kettle. There wasn’t a brook in sight for miles around. What on earth had happened here? They put the little ones in a box and took them to a hunter to be shot. From now on, Rebecca’s story would be a special one.
The hunter wanted to make sure the little freshies were well looked after
He felt sorry for the newborns and left the box with the pretty pigs in the care of his sister. She was supposed to raise them, but was unable to cope with the huge task and gave the little ones to people who had been raising wild animals for 20 years. Now the life of the young wild boars seemed to be heading in the right direction.
Rebecca and her siblings were now 4 weeks old and squeaky clean
Funny and cheerful, they enchanted people with their beautiful, big eyes and long eyelashes. Everything was fine so far: there was food, warmth, exercise and lots of cuddles. But also a sense of responsibility.
Countless wildlife parks were contacted with the request to take in the newborns. But the answer was always the same: “Shooting is best!”. People couldn’t let go of this horrific thought and a television programme with Michael Aufhauser saved Rebecca and her siblings. A call to the animal emergency centre brought the little wild boar family to Gut Aiderbichl.
Rebecca spent her life at Gut Aiderbichl in Carinthia
Wild boars can live up to 20 years. Gut Aiderbichl in Carinthia has a spacious, stable wild boar enclosure with a stable building and free range.
Feral pigs are repeatedly delivered to the estate as young boars. Rearing them without mother’s milk is difficult, sometimes brings diseases, is expensive and time-consuming. If you want to release the animals back into the wild after a few months, familiarisation with humans becomes noticeable and makes this project more difficult.
Wild boars are part of creation – just like us humans
Rebecca had many ups and downs in her life, which lasted 12 years. in the last few weeks, she steadily declined, the prescribed treatments by the vet did not want to work. It is difficult to examine a wild boar in detail, but together with the vet we did everything possible to stabilise our Rebecca.
Rebecca decides for herself whether to be or not to be
We realised that she had programmed her way to the Rainbow Bridge. She became weaker and stopped eating until one day we found our wild boar girl: forever asleep near her hut.
Sometimes the animals don’t give us a chance, they decide for themselves when their life’s light goes out.
God created all creatures with love and kindness, big, small, in human or animal form. All are children of the Father and were so perfect in his creation that he gave each his own environment and his animals a home full of rivers, beautiful trees and meadows like paradise itself.
– St Francis of Assisi
Dear Rebecca,
You were lucky in your misfortune when you were still a little fledgling. Your life was accompanied by people and now you have decided to go slowly and comfortably, just as you were, over the Rainbow Bridge. People should learn that wild boars are special pigs. Although you have a reputation for being dangerous, we want to tell people through your life:Every single animal on this earth is part of creation and has a special task and meaning to fulfil.Take care, dear Rebecca. You remain in our hearts!
