Luzy, Sepp and their offspring Herkules
A small, funny ferret family
DThe lives of two people are divided. A new home had to be found for their fosterlings Luzy, Sepp and Herkulesbecause neither of them can keep ferrets in their future home. Previously, in the shared house, everything had been clear: the ferrets were family members and lived in the garden shed. The little ferret colonyin Henndorf can grow again: Luzy, Sepp and their offspring Herkules arrive at the animal visitor centre Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf.
Luzy and Sepp are originally from Upper Bavaria
Luzy and Sepp were discovered in an internet advert and taken in. Both are very sociable and playful ferrets. Luzy has already had kittens, and Sepp became the father of their son Hercules before he was neutered. Herkules is one and a half years old and not yet as gentle at play as his parents. It can happen that he looks quite innocent with his eyes and then quickly nips. Like his parents, he is curious and bright and probably still in puberty. Before the little ferret familywas handed over to Aiderbichl, they lived in a large ferret hutchin the garden and were often allowed to run around freely in the workshop.
"... It is important to us that they are happy and kept in a species-appropriate manner"
If there’s one place where ferrets are doing well, it’s with our Anna, who loves all animals that are as cheeky and bright as Hercules.
For some time now, the ferret househas been home to Carlos and Henry, who had to be relinquished with a heavy heart due to the owner’s career change. The beiden flinkies arrived with their own wooden house. Both have settled in wellbut are not like Luzy, Sepp and Hercules, who are used to living outdoors. Luzy, Sepp and her offspring live in the outdoor enclosure because they also lived in the garden enclosure with the previous owners. Anna has now lovingly furnished the home of the Lucy, Sepp and Herkules family in the area behind the donkey house appropriate for ferrets . Lots of cuddling opportunities, hiding places, sand baths, water dispensers, food bowls etc. are available. Herkules’ parents are finding their way around well, while the cheeky offspring is still exploring the new surroundings. But one thing is clear: Anna is having fun and enjoying her new protégés.
Where does the ferret come from?
The domestication of the ferret began around 2500 years ago in the Mediterranean region. Ferrets are hunters and were already used by the Romans as hunting aids to combat the rabbit plague. Ferrets can be found in the wild in Sardinia, Sicily and New Zealand. Many people love these small, funny animals and keep them in their homes. Ferrets live to be nine years old on average. Thanks to the loving care and prudence of our animal carers, Aiderbichlerferrets live to be well over ten years old.
Moral behaviour is behaviour that is not selfish but altruistic. Its motive is not its own welfare, but directly the welfare and well-being of other beings.
