Farewell to a silent hero

Our Gismo has passed away

When we saw Gismo and his siblings for the first time, when we were allowed to hold him for the first time, we thought it was a miracle. His mother Selma had not only fought for her life in the flood of the century in 2013, but also for the lives of her unborn kittens. What fears must she have had to go through, how much strength must it have cost her?

At this time, the Gut Aiderbichl team from Deggendorf was on duty around the clock. All the animals that were affected by the floods found refuge here on the hills above Deggendorf. Many animals were returned to the care of their owners. But nobody asked for Selma.

On the 22nd of June 2013, little Gismo finally saw the light of day. Immediately we were enchanted and rejoiced that in the midst of these terrible events something so wonderful was also happening. His arrival in the world gave hope not only to us, but to many other people!

In our care, he grew up and became a self-confident cat. Every day he was happy to greet our visitors. He never let us take away his joy of life and his confidence, not even when he was diagnosed with ear cancer and had to have both ears removed.

In the last few weeks, he had lost a lot of weight and had to fight again and again with infections. When our vet determined also a painful arthrosis in the hind legs, it tore us the heart. How much this wonderful soul had to experience and still met us with so much love. In the end his condition was very critical, Gismo was deteriorating and no therapy would help him. When there was a suspicion of feline leukemia, we pulled the rip cord. There was no cure for Gismo, nothing could take away his pain - the day had come when we had to say goodbye to our friend.

Now our silent hero, our great fighter has fallen asleep forever. A long journey of illness is now behind him and he is no longer in pain. He is now in an even better place where he is well and happy.

Dear Gismo, we love you and will never forget you. For us, you were a bringer of light and a wonderful friend. Thank you for allowing us to get to know you, to accompany you on your journey through life and to stand by you in your last moments.

Reunion is our hope. As bitter as death is, it cannot separate love. He has indeed departed from life, but not from our life; for how could we think him dead, who dwells so vividly in our hearts!
