02.3 "Adopt-a-cat day"
Not only in Austria, but worldwide, cats enjoy the reputation of being low-maintenance pets. Dogs, rabbits or birds as flatmates are more demanding to keep. Cats manage to make people happy with their special character, their little snub nose and their unconventional nature, which is precisely why they should be treated with respect.
The status of the cat up to animal number one
For generations now, the cat has had the number one status in many households worldwide.
In the agricultural Egypt of the 6th century, the cat not only rose to become an elegant and skilful mouser, but was also revered as a cult animal.
For the Romans and Greeks, the cat was a useful pet, but also a scary and unpredictable animal. As the Roman Empire expanded, the cat’s home spread further and further north into Europe.
The cat as a major issue in animal welfare
People want kittens, pedigree cats and uncomplicated cats so that they can lead a happy life with them. Animal shelters around the world are overcrowded with cats. In the cat rooms of Gut Aiderbichl’s animal sanctuaries alone there are over 700 cats that have been surrendered for various reasons.
The Adopt-a-cat-tag offers nowthe chance, to draw attentiontothe topic of cats consciously.
Gut Aiderbichl's cat neutering project
Gut Aiderbichl launched a measure against the uncontrolled breeding of cats in the province of Salzburg. The Gut Aiderbichl cat neutering project is supported by regional veterinarians. Gut Aiderbichl covers the costs of the project.
TFriends of eggs and farmers in the Flachgauarea, Pinzgau, Pongau and in Tennengau were calledin the first phase, to report stray catsand so nearly 1.000 cats were neutered. After neutering, the animals were released back into their territory.
The idea is that this project should be carried out with a view to the health of stray cats, the reduction of overpopulation of stray cats and at the same time the spread of cat diseases.

It doesn’t take long fornewcat additions to feel that they are fighting for injuries, illnesses or their kittens no longer have to worry. There are now helpersfor that: The Aiderbichler animal furryin Maria Schmolln.
Considerations before adopting a cat and the special care place contract
A cat in the family requires a number of considerations that are essential for a harmonious life together: will my cat be an indoor cat or an outdoor cat, who will look after my pet in the event of a holiday or illness? It is also often advisable to have any allergies checked as a precaution, etc.
Gut Aiderbichl will draw up a special care contract with the new cat owner to protect the animal. If, for any reason, it is no longer possible to live with the cat, the contract ensures that the cat can be returned to Gut Aiderbichl.
The following cats and many more are waiting to be adopted
Anabell – She is eleven years old and came to Gut Aiderbichl as a baby cat in 2010 after the floods in Deggendorf. Anabel loves being outside, is very cuddly and loves “incessant” cuddles. Sometimes she is a little moody and prefers to be kept as an individual cat.
Schmucki-Imani – is about four years old and came as a found cat to an animal shelter and on to Maria Schmolln. Imani is shy and you have to earn her trust with love, patience and lots of cuddles. But – Imani doesn’t make it difficult for people and whoever has reached her cat’s heart has won.
Vincent and the Wild Hilde – Both cats are five years old and were lovelessly abandoned years ago. Caressing hands are rewarded with a double-loud purr.
Hope – hopes with iher eight years for a safe, loving home. Hope was abandoned years ago with her kittens and found by people who love animals.
Ruby, Aslan, Nacho, Akira, Shiva, Mira, Salem and many more are waiting to be adopted.
