Baroque donkey Valentine
An animal messenger for Valentine's Day
In the 17th and 18th centuries, the Baroque donkeys were bred for the nobility, but they became threatened with extinction. In the meantime, the animal population has increased again due to good breeding. In the studbook, there are exactly 290 mating Baroque donkeys in Austria, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland as well as in Spain since 2018.
In the Baroque period, people wanted animals with light-colored coats because stroking a white coat was supposed to bring happiness and peace. The donkey breed is medium in size, has a white-yellow coat and the skin and hooves are lightly pigmented. The light blue eyes of the donkeys made them bringers of light.
Valentin is a pretty and intelligent messenger for Valentine's Day. His life story started more than 8 years ago. Valentin was supposed to become an Austrian-Hungarian breeding donkey, but unfortunately he had a leg deformity from birth, which was not to be passed on under any circumstances. So his new forever-home should be Aiderbichl Henndorf. He was 14 months old when we took him in, and he was neutered shortly before his arrival. In the beginning, his hormones set the pace and he had to settle down before he could walk around the farm together with the many donkey mares.
Valentin is the highest member of the (Ba)Rocker gang
All members of the (Ba)Rocker gang belong to the breed of the Austro-Hungarian Baroque donkeys.
They surprise us every day with a new prank and are always up for a joke. Emely, Sophie, Andi and Valentin love to chill in the sun and always perform in the group of four.
Valentin and Andi in particular have mastered the art of "wrapping their fingers around". They look at the human, tilt their heads a little, open their nostrils, blink their seductive blue eyes and call out softly "Iaaaah!", which means: "Can I have a lick, please? However, they are only allowed to get this from the animal keepers.
The baroque donkey knows very well what he wants
Sometimes you get the impression as if they wanted to keep their aristocratic, noble character. Elegant and with their heads held high, even if sometimes a bit dirty, they stand in the row of four and no one knows what they are thinking.
They try to spread their elegance and grace all around Henndorf. This trait is especially true for Emely and Sophie.
Valentin and his best friend Andi are inseparable. Andi has a real fuzzy head and always orientates himself to his friend Valentin. Above all, Andi is not disturbed by anything. He stands above things, even if he is the smallest among the baroque donkeys.
The wisdom of donkeys
Going to the stable in the evening is no fun for the baroque donkeys. Valentin in particular is cunning. No sooner is the latch at their stable closed than it is open again. Carabiners don't impress Valentin and his friend Andi at all.
Donkey Valentine, like all donkeys, by the way, can smile very mischievous. He can not buy flowers for Valentine's Day, but he can offer you the warmest smile. You can find Valentin in the donkey house, at the animal buffet or with his gang at the dung heap. Sincerely, your Gisela
