Rolettahas been living at Moosfeldhof since mid-June, an outdoor courtyard from Gut Aiderbichl in Germany. Despite all her handicaps -her short stature and cleft palate-Rolettaseemsto be full of joie de vivre. She gives Christian Kögl, the manager of the Moosfeldhof, a lot of joy and makes him think: Every life is worth living.
The Limousin cattle
The first herd book of the Limousinbreed was established in France in 1886. Originally, this cattle breed was bred for draught and fattening ability.
In Germany, the Limousin has been around since 1975 and is next to the Charolaisthemost important beef cattle breed. A cow weighs between 650 and 850 kg and a bull up to 1400 kg.
The trademark of the Limousinis the red to wheat-coloured coat with lightening around the eyes, on the muzzle and on the feet.
The character of the limousincow is rather calm and balanced. When it comes to defending the calves against enemies, the good-natured limousincow becomes grouchy.
Roletta is a bundle of energy and loves goats
“I’m standing with Roletta right now. She’s fine, she’s always up for a joke. She’s not afraid of strange noises, such as a tractor.
She is curious and wants to know everything that is going on around her. Curiosity is typical of the breed and Roletta also learns from her best friends, the goats at Moosfeldhof, how to be even more curious than curious.
Roletta herself is dwarfed and has a cleft palate. The farmer’s wife, who has 120 other cattle in the barn, wanted to keep Roletta alive and went to great lengths with the calf and its cleft palate. As a calf, Roletta was bottle-fed because no negative pressure could be created due to the cleft, making it impossible for her to drink and suck from the teat.
Roletta gets rather soft food and she eats slowly so that not too many food juices get into her respiratory system. It all looks a little difficult for humans, but calf Roletta makes the best of her situation.
She has a wonderfully soft coat and loves to be stroked and cuddled, Roletta!”.
Saving an animal doesn’t change the world. But the whole world changes for that animal.
Roletta had a farmer’s wife who found her life worth living despite her handicaps. This shows respect and love for Roletta as a fellow creature.
Roletta enjoys her life to the full and plays a different prank every day with her friends, the goats. She will let us know when her life becomes too exhausting and no longer worth living for her.
