Cat neutering project
Huge success in 2024!
More than 1000 cats have been successfully neutered
The year 2024 was all about cats. This was the year we launched our cat neutering project. We initially started in the Salzburg region. But the news quickly spread – fortunately for the cats. Now part of Upper Austria and Carinthia are also involved. Because with every stray cat that is neutered, we can take preventative action against animal suffering.
Statistics show alarming figures
There are many statistics that describe the population growth of unneutered cats. For example, two unneutered cats can become over 70,000 in 7 years. “Each unspayed female cat can give birth to up to twelve kittens per year. This means that the number of stray cats can rise into the thousands within a short space of time,” explains Aiderbichler employee Bianca.
And even if the reality is somewhat different in the end, neutering cats is unspeakably important. Because many of the kittens born do not reach adulthood. They die horriblyfrom diseases, neglect, being run over, killed by humans or other predators. Animal suffering that can easily be prevented.
Good news
A project that was born out of necessity has surprised us all. We would never have expected to be able to neuter over 1,000 cats. This would never have been possible without the incredible commitment of animal lovers, vets and Gut Aiderbichl staff. Through our efforts alone, we were able to prevent an estimated 44,000 cat births and reduce or even avoid the suffering of street cats due to hunger, cold, disease, cat fights and traffic.
The plan is to continue in 2025
Highly motivated by this success, we want to continue at full speed in 2025. Because there are still many cats out there that need help. In order to continue helping them, we need support from outside. We need people to give us financial help. We need people who can catch cats professionally and take them to be neutered. We need vets to join our project and we need people who want to look and help.
Please support our project and help to minimise the suffering of the cats. The costs for neutering and treating the already sick cats are very high, despite the great support of the vets. On behalf of the cats, we would like to thank you for your valuable support!
