Life without people was not possible
Djego, Messi and Speedy
From the perspective of an Aiderbichler
(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)
About two and a half months ago, we received an email from a social worker asking if we could take in three tomcats. The health of a married couple no longer allowed them to look after Djego, Messi and Speedy. Both have applied for admission to a care home and are unable to take the animals there.
Gut Aiderbichl always works in a solution-orientated way, so naturally the “3 Musketeers” were able to come. They have been leading a very relaxed life at Gut Aiderbichl in Traisen for a few weeks now.
“As I can’t think of any other solution at the moment, I’ll just ask you…”
The woman suffers from dementia and her husband has had his left lower leg amputated due to diabetes. Difficult living conditions force them to spend the rest of their lives in a nursing home, but without their beloved cats.
The social worker retrieved personal belongings from the flat and realised that the living conditions for the cats could only be makeshift. Djego, Messi and Speedy were basically in good condition, very relaxed and well fed. A neighbour took makeshift care of the three cats so that they at least got their food.
Unfortunately, Djego, Messi and Speedy were left to their own devices all day – no cuddles or snuggles with their humans. The litter trays were available but not cleaned, the windows were closed and the flat smelled accordingly. A solution had to be found, and it was Gut Aiderbichl, because the couple has no one to take over their beloved velvet paws.
Djego (14 years), Messi (15 years) and Speedy (17 years) in their new home
In Traisen, the three cats live in their own large room with a balcony – just like they did at home with their humans.
After arrival, a health check was carried out, which revealed that the cats had probably been struggling with ear mites for years. The growths were removed and now everything seems to be fine.
Unfortunately, we discovered a heart defect in Speedy, which is why he was lying around most of the time at the beginning and wanted to rest. The veterinary treatment is doing him good and now Speedy is getting really “speedy”, i.e. more active.
Djegeo, Messi and Speedy are very curious and cuddly. Djego likes to leave the room they share and go exploring. Messi loves the balcony and Speedy decides for himself how and what he wants to do.
A cat has absolute emotional honesty: Humans often hide their feelings for one reason or another, a cat does not.
~ Ernest Hemingway
Then we wish the “3 musketeers” a contented, happy cat life at Gut Aiderbichl in Traisen.
Yours sincerely, Gisela.
