Sammy and Egon
two chinchillas tell
Unour animal emergency centre got an E-Mail, with a request to take in two chinchillas aged around eight months. The owners had been looking for a new home for some time, but unfortunately without success.
A discussion with Anna, the colleague responsible for wild animals and rodents, revealed that fate had been kind to the beautiful animals, and they could be brought to Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf.
Keeping an animal is a responsible business
Many people, whether children or adults, would like to have an animal companion in their home. All seems well at first, but thenvarious events can cause this cohabitationto disintegrate: an allergyto pet hair, the financial means are lacking, the new landlord does not allow animals, the neighbours feel annoyed by various animal odours, animals are too loud in the flat, holidays are coming, …. the animal has to go.
Sammy and Egon
now live with a few other chinchillas at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf. They have quickly settled in and bring us all great joy.
“Oh, look, that’s a pretty chinchilla girl. Do you know what her name is? Somehow it seems to me that all the animals on this Gut Aiderbichl have a name, just like us. Egon, have you noticed how Anna calls this pretty chinchilla?” says Sammy to Egon.
“No, I can hear fine, but no, I didn’t really understand the name. Ah, here comes Anna. Now let’s prick up our ears and find out what this chinchilla beauty is called!” whispers Egon.
When Anna comes to visit her fosterlings, there is a lot of hustle and bustle among the chinchillas. Her arrival usually means that the enclosures are cleaned, fresh food is topped up and the hiding places and cuddling areas are cleaned.
“Yes, Sammy and Egon. How are you two doing? Look, I’ve brought some good snacks. And very important for you, a sand bath for grooming. … Well, see you later, I’ll come round again!”. Anna loves these soft, fluffy chinchillas with the big googly eyes.
Then Pit gets in touch: “Hello you two new guys. We are a wonderful chinchilla community here. Welcome. Pit lies down in the sand bath to groom himself. Egon and Sammy will then join him in this sand bath.
These beautiful animals are originally at home in South America, where they live in crevices and caves. With a little patience, they also become tame and can be stroked. The rodents are crepuscular and nocturnal and are therefore not really suitable as playmates for children. After all, they should sleep at night so that they can concentrate on their school lessons the next day.Chinchillas can live to be between 15 and 20 years old. So there’s still a lot to do, because these beautiful animals remain fun and highly active well into old age.
