A men's flat share
Colour mice Max, Moritz, Peter, Karl and Heinz
Due to allergic reactions to animal hair and hay, five coloured mice had to leave the home they had only recently moved into.
The owner and his daughter experienced allergic reactions such as rhinitis, coughing, runny eyes, etc. etc. An allergy test confirmed allergic reactions to animal hair and hay.
Colour mice and their history
The coloured mouseis found in Europe, North Africa and Asia. The small mice with the long tail can live up to 4 years. Males are approx. 12 cm long including the tail and females approx. 10 cm.
Sexual maturity begins from the 4th week of life. The funny little mice come in around 20 different colours and fur patterns.
The colour mouse needs a clan and something to do
Coloured mice live in the wild in extended families, i.e. a male and his female and the young. Each extended family has its own territory, which is marked with scent marks and also defended.
A minimum of two mice of the same sex must be kept in private homes. Each litter means between four and 12 young.
The colour mouse is descended from the grey-brown house mouse, and also has the same behavioural patterns. They are uncomplicated to keep. The cage must be as large as possible and should have narrow bars to prevent the mice from escaping. For the equipment you need little houses, ladders and climbing equipment for variety during “sport”.
Coloured mice love grains, dandelions, cucumbers, carrots and fruit as food. The small rodents need non-toxic twigs or rodent wood for dental care. Every now and then you should treat them to mealworms, yoghurt or boiled eggs. Fresh water must always be available.
Unlike rats, the little coloured mice are happy to cuddle with their humans. If they get along, you just need a lot of patience and calm to get the little friends back into the cage.
Max, Moritz, Peter, Karl and Heinz
Max and Moritz have white and brown spotted fur, while Peter, Karl and Heinz have black and white spots. Together, they are all very agile and fun to be around – there’s no room for sadness, field mice make for a good mood.
Their owners brought the 5 little friends in a large cage with all kinds of climbing bars, ropes, tubes, wooden shelters, etc. The little mice retreat into small coconut shells, which are probably their sleeping quarters. The day begins with “Fit mach mit” in the running wheel.
What’s nice is that the former owners also visit Max, Moritz, Peter, Karl and Heinz. However, we then have to provide fresh air, because father and daughter are about to have breathing problems again.
Animals are the best of friends. They don't ask questions and don't criticise.
