Puki the dog
"I'm looking for a new home, I'm aggressive towards children, my name is Puki and I was born on 28 November 2021"
From the perspective of an Aiderbichler
(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)
Puki’s story is a horrific one that gets under your skin and is inexcusable. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of abandoned animals on this earth every year. Take five minutes and ask yourself how you experience disrespectful behaviour as an animal-loving person and as an affected animal:
Puki, a mongrel with curly, snow-white fur and loyal, enquiring saucer eyes, was found by a lady at the Salzach lakes. He was wearing a chest harness with a note attached:
“I’m looking for a new home, I’m aggressive towards children, my name is Puki …”
The lady took Puki into her home and wanted to place him on her own, but after consulting the public order office, she was informed that she would have to keep him for four weeks, as the owners could still get in touch. She was unable to keep the abandoned dog and turned to the Salzburg animal shelter. There was no free capacity for Puki there. The shelter advised her to get in touch with Gut Aiderbichl. After consultation with the public order office, Puki will now spend the next four weeks in the care of Gut Aiderbichl.
What does cruelty to animals mean?
Whoever places an animal somewhere like an unwanted object, abandons it … commits a punishable offencein accordance with Section 38 of the Criminal Provisions of the Animal Welfare Act (current legislation).According to Ombudssoffences will be punished with an administrative fine of up to €7.500 or in severe cases even imprisonment (see the Animal Protection Act)..
Puki seeks contact with people
Puki is a very docile, playful and extremely affectionate dog who, despite everything that humans have done to him, seeks contact with people. Our animal carers have noticed absolutely no aggression in Puki – regardless of whether it’s encounters with adults or children. However, there is one thing where little Puki does cause problems: big men with broad shoulders. He gets restless, takes cover and shows absolute fear behaviour.
If you are walking around the Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf farm and come across a small, snow-white dog with dark saucer eyes and an animal keeper, then you have the honour of meeting Puki.
The greatness and moral progress of a nation can be measured by the way it treats its animals." (Mahatma Gandhi)
The abandoned Pukiis for me again proof of how great animals are at forgiveness. A human cannot be so vile to an animalthat itforgives itand continues to walk the path of life with humans. Sincerely, Your Gisela
