Donkey Bernie and Lisa
The self-confident donkey Bernie and the "forgotten Lisa"
Talking about an animal’s life is almost like watching a film. It is often the case that you can no longer stop marvelling. What do animals go through before they are allowed to experience a little joy in their lives? They stand together in a stable, then one is sold. The next animal comes along, another one goes.
In the stable of an animal lover, donkey Lisa found her best friend Weibi
The mare Weibi crossed the Rainbow Bridge some time ago. She had been sold to the horse dealer years ago due to osteoarthritis. Weibi had a stroke of luck. The dealer wanted to sell her on and put her in the stable of an animal lover in the meantime.
The road to a better future was about to begin
Weibi was brought to the stable where Lisa the donkey had been living for a few days. The animal lover told us that her owners had simply forgotten about her. Forgotten in the truest sense of the word: the hooves had not been looked after for a long time and Lisa was in terrible pain. Somehow Lisa was a sad figure.
From then on, however, Weibi and Lisa became a team. They lived a harmonious life and each new day was even more exciting than the one before. The dealer was unable to find a buyer for Weibi, so she was sent to the butcher. The 22-year-old mare was facing the end.
Gut Aiderbichl had 60 minutes to decide whether to die or continue living
The animal lover called us immediately. The mare had to live on. And a solution was found – Weibi could come. It was at this point that we learnt of the close friendship with Lisa. We respect the bond between animal families and animal friendships and it wouldn’t have been Aiderbichl if we hadn’t taken in the mare and the donkey. Both moved into an Aiderbichl farm in Salzburg.
Bernie became Weibi and Lisa’s mutual friend
Bernie came to Gut Aiderbichl in 2015. A very self-confident young donkey, he became Weibi and Lisa’s friend. They lived together in happiness and harmony for several years. A few months ago, Weibi sadly crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She said goodbye to her friends Lisa and Bernie in peace and quiet.
Moving to Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf
The two donkeys have now been integrated into the group of Henndorf donkeys. Mario, the donkey leader, is happy with the long-eared addition. “You’ll love it here. I’ll also show you what we donkeys can do here”.
It is only thanks to your support, dear Aiderbichlers, that we can help animals like Lisa, Bernie and Weibi. Please continue to support us with a small donation or a symbolic sponsorship. Thank you very much.
