The donkeys Elsa and Gina win hearts
From the perspective of an Aiderbichler
(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)
For many years, a couple bred organic sheep. The animal-loving couple retired, stopped breeding sheep and got two donkey mares instead: Elsa and Gina.
The husband died unexpectedly and the single widow was unable to cope with the farm and everything that went with it.
The daughter-in-law turned to Dieter Ehrengruber. Donkeys are special animals for him too, so he immediately agreed to take in Elsa and Gina.
The donkey - a little psychotherapist
The donkey is stubborn and stupid – many peoplethink so. The donkey is intelligent, very sensitive and a great thinkerin contrast. He is a proud animal and will do almost anything a human asks of him. He doesn’t want to be beaten, he wants to be stroked tenderly and he loves it when you massage his long ears.
The donkey senses the state of mind of man and wants to be his friend. Donkeys are like little psychotherapists for nervous, anxious or injured animals and humans.
The forever home is the Köglerhof in Carinthia
The two donkey mares were picked up from their original farm and driven to Markus Leitner, the manager of the Köglerhof farm in Carinthia, in a cosy van belonging to Gut Aiderbichl’s animal rescuers.
Donkeys are highly sensitive animals, so perhaps the Carinthian donkeys Odysseus, Pedro, Sam and Winnetou sensed who or what was being led out of the transporter? The two donkey ladies Elsa and Gina were greeted by the four donkey masters with raised ears and attentive eyes. The two donkey mares looked a little shyly to the side and Markus was immediately on hand. First of all, they went into the prepared stable.
Elsa and Gina are still very young
Elsa, two years old, and Gina, three years old, still have a whole donkey’s life ahead of them and can live up to 50 years if they are in good health.
Markus observes the new arrivals and says: “… In the pasture, I let the donkey geldings and donkey mares be with each other. Elsa and Gina, however, still prefer to keep to themselves. Although they are already furtively looking over at the smart donkey geldings. That will take some time, as they only arrived here a week ago. But one thing works: when feeding time comes, Elsa and Gina’s “Iah” is almost twice as loud as that of Odysseus, Pedro, Sam and Winnetou. A few more weeks and Elsa and Gina will be the bosses!”.
We wish Elsa and Gina all the best and a very long, happy life at the Köglerhof in Carinthia. The conditions are right. Sincerely, Your Gisela
