Fate of the fattening pig
The touching story of our Susi
Many pigs have found a home for life on the Gut Aiderbichl farms, and it is fair to say that they have become well-balanced, stress-free animals. There are always stories between heaven and earth that take your breath away.
Fattening pigs were housed without official authorisationThe injured Susi remained behind lock and key
Susi’s misfortune or luck – as you like – was that she was unable to be transported due to serious joint injuries and was left behind in the barn. The official order to have Susi examined was ignored by the farmer more than once. Susi lived behind a locked stable door and a drama was brewing.
The padlock to the barn was picked and a pig with no will to live looked out of small, sad eyes
Susi was lying in a corner of the stall in pain and could only get up with difficulty. The vet diagnosed painful inflammation in her hock and tarsal joint. It was hardly possible to put any weight on her legs.
Susi was transported to another stable where she drank vast quantities of water. In the locked stable, she was probably unable to go to the water trough due to her pain.
Intensive veterinary treatment saved Susi’s life
The vet and Susi fought together to save her life. The treatments did her ailing joints good, only the tarsal joint was still very swollen. But Susi’s condition improved and after almost two weeks of treatment, food and water, Susi’s will to live and her bright eyes returned.
After about three weeks, Susi asked “Oink, was what?”
The doctors and Susi were beaming with joy: “That’s it, she can walk again!”.
Slaughter was of course not an option for Susi’s rescuers, so they set about looking for a home for life for the recovered pig.
An enquiry was made to Gut Aiderbichl and Susi is now leading a very good life until the end of her natural life.
Gut Aiderbichl Carinthia has become the new home address for Susi, the former fattening pig. Markus and his team do everything they can to ensure that Susi no longer has to suffer pain, always has enough water and food and a cosy bed of straw. – All the best, Susi!
It is only thanks to your support, dear animal lovers and Aiderbichlers, that we can help animals like Susi in great need and offer them a home until the end of their natural lives. Please continue to support us with a donation or a symbolic sponsorship. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
