Frechdachs and Knöpfchen
Two capricious goats
Some time ago we received an email from a woman. For a long time, she and her husband looked after a care centre for rabbits, guinea pigs and dogs. At some point, three goats also enriched this little Noah's Ark.
In 2016, the son of the family passed away and the health of the animal-loving lady deteriorated visibly. It even got to the point where she could only move forward in a wheelchair.
Her husband now cared for the animals in the foster home and, of course, his wife with great dedication, but circumstances demanded a new living area and unfortunately the animals could not come with him.
The call for help was followed by the reception of the two goats and the rabbits
It was now a matter of taking in the two still-living goats and rabbits at Gut Aiderbichl. The goats Knöpfchen and Frechdachs came to Gut Aiderbichl Eslarn and the rabbits also found a nice place on one of our farms.
Frechdachs and Knöpfchen
The two have settled in very well at the Eslarn farm and are always up for a joke. Michael, the estate manager, has a lot to laugh about with the goats every day.
Eslarn is home to 44 goats, which have now accepted Frechdachs and Knöpfchen into their sociable circle. Goats are very capricious, but there is one thing they absolutely need: a herd to live in. In Eslarn, the dwarf goats live in the area of the horse farm and the big goats spend their lives with the sheep, near the cattle farm.
In a herd of goats there is a strict hierarchy, which Frechdachs in particular does not necessarily adhere to. Otherwise he wouldn't be a real cheeky goat! Knöpfchen is a little easier to care for and more level-headed. When it comes to eating, it's also about the hierarchy, which of course doesn't interest her. The stable is built in such a way that each goat has its place and its food.
Frechdachs and Knöpfchen are very curious
Goats are curious and inventive. In case of danger, sheep panic, but goats don't really get upset. When the situation calls for it, and it gets dicey, a goat makes three escape leaps and thinks "should I really run away or can I wait it out?
Goats and dogs are not natural friends
By nature, the goat is at war with the dog. The dog is associated with the wolf, the natural enemy of sheep and goats. When a goat goes after a dog to defend itself, it tries to poke the dog in the soft belly with the tips of its horns. Is it because of the Aiderbichl goats that they don't want to harm the dogs? Our goats are relaxed and no dog needs to be afraid of them. Frechdachs and Knöpfchen also let the dogs walk past in peace, perhaps because they have lived with the couple with dogs. Who knows...in any case, we are very happy that the two of them make us smile every day.
Only thanks to your support, dear animal friends, we can help animals and people in emergency situations. Thus, Frechdachs and Knöpfchen have found a new home until the natural end of their lives. Please continue to support us with a small donation or a sponsorship. Thank you very much and stay healthy.
