Anton loves women
and Gustav loves runner ducks
well then ...
“… The animals are my greatest joy on all days …”
A woman takes care of animals in need throughout her life. These include Anton and Gustav, as well as eight runner duck drakes. The animal-loving woman, who is now struggling with her own illness, has always cared for all the rescued animals until their natural end of life. Now the time has come for her to question how everything should continue when she is no longer around. She doesn’t want to burden either her husband or her children with her pets.
It was not possible to socialise the Cholmogory gander with geese
Anton and Gustav come from hand-rearing, both are likely to be mismatched: Anton has formed a special bond with his new owner from day one, and Gustav loves all the runner ducks he meets.
Cholmogory geese have been bred for meat in the Black Earth region of Russia since the 19th century. The gander can weigh up to 12 kg and the goose up to 10 kg. They come in white, grey, blue and pied colours. White ganders such as Anton and Gustav have blue eyes and a pronounced, rounded hump at the base of the beak – similar to the well-known humped goose. This beautiful breed is therefore a very large, long and heavy goose with a well-rounded body and tight-fitting plumage.
The owner would have liked to offer Anton and Gustav, as well as the eight runner ducks, female company, but she would have had to take a drake with the duck, which was not her goal. Apart from that, there were no cholmogory geese to be found.
"... so with a heavy heart I'm now googling for ways to accommodate my gander ..."
Like all geese, Gustav and Anton also love to chatter and do so loudly. When the animal-loving lady was in the garden with her geese, Anton sometimes forgot to take a bath because he wanted to adore his owner and accompany her, as well as clean her and tell her stories quietly (he chattered quietly to himself).
Gustav, meanwhile, is busy with the runner ducks and finds fulfilment.
On the command “Come, come”, the gander used to be called into their enclosure and on “Gehma” they all followed the lady into the hutch.
The new forever home for Anton and Gustav
The two special Cholmogory geese have many conspecifics at Gut Aiderbichl Carinthia. Anton is particularly fond of his female keepers, but leaves his waddling feet off the male keepers. Gustav has fun with the runner ducks and also listens to the female keepers if there is no other way.A heartfelt wish has come true, Gustav and Anton are happy and content in their new home.
Let’s wish their former owner all the best. As Anton and Gustav belong to a very intelligent breed of animal, they will certainly never forget their great friend.
The soul is the same in all living beings, only the body is different.
