Happiness

Hermina has given us an early
a Christmas present

From the perspective of an Aiderbichler

(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)

A few days ago I wrote, that Hermina absolutely wantedto become an aiderbichler. She had broken through the fence, and from then on, the two-year-old HolsteinFriesian stood in the Aiderbichlercattle herdat the home farm. Herd of cattle at the home farm of Gut Aiderbichl in Carinthia.
Hermina’s owner wanted to pick up his cow Hermina twice with the transporter, but healwaysgot the impressionthat Hermina didn’t want to come along. It was actually a miracle that the farmer said: “I don’t think she wants to leave. That’s really hilarious “. Negotiations were concluded and Hermina was able to stay in her new forever home, which she had chosen for herself
.

The signals of the animals

So often you hear people say: “(…) that’s a stupid cow, what does she want to decide?”. Far from it. Cattle are intelligent animals, they certainly perceive more than many people give them credit for.Full of self-confidence and on her own initiative, Hermina wanted to make it clear that she no longer wanted to leave the Aiderbichler herd of cattle.
The farmer didn’t want to stand in Hermina’s way and left her where she was happy – with the cattle at Gut Aiderbichl.

He also let us in on a sweet secret: Hermina was pregnant and would calve in the next few days.Hermina was waiting in the calving pen for the birth of her first calf

In a few days it would happen, and the calf would be born.Markus, the farm manager in Carinthia, always looked in on Hermina first thing in the morning, and that day was no exception. Everything was quiet and in order. He started feeding the animals on the farm and looked straight back at Hermina afterwards.
There it was, the little Christmas miracle: big eyes with long, white eyelashes, a white body with a few grey patches in its fur and miserably long legs: Glücka was there.

A healthy cow calf that can stay with its mum forever.

Hermina is a wonderful cow mum

Little Glückais always hungry and drinks lots of milk, Hermina licks her again and again and they cuddle a lot.

Both are healthy and happy.

Now there is a tender, soft Muuuuuh more at the home farm in Carinthia. A little calf makes hearts beat faster there: Hermina’s and the hearts of the people who work there.

I don't think I would find it difficult to live among animals. They are so quiet and frugal. I can spend a long time watching them. They don't toil, they don't moan about how badly off they are. (...) None of them is dissatisfied, none of them is infected by the delusion of having to possess something (...) None of them has a reputation to lose, none of them is unhappy about this world.

~ Walt Whitman, US-American poet 1819-1892

Sincerely, Your Gisela
