Goats Hope, Burli and Angelo
They had had their day as lawnmowers
Hope, Burli and Angelo are less than a year old and were due to be sent to the abattoir after they were no longer used as lawnmowers. The three tame goats were rescued by an animal-loving lady. There was still one day left – Gut Aiderbichl had to make a decision as quickly as possible to give the animals a forever home. The admission was approved.
Animal power as labour
Many animals are used as beasts of burden and draught animals, as those that transport goods or drive mills. The tasks for which farm animals are used can be strenuous, dangerous and sometimes even deadly.
Goats are among the earliest domesticated animals. Their history is long and interesting. In ancient times, goats spread throughout the Mediterranean region. From mythology we learn that the god Pan, the god of animals and the forest, is half man – half goat. Mythology also contains the first indications that goats were used as working animalsu: the chariot of the Germanic god of thunder Thor is pulled by two billy goats. When goats are mentioned as working animals, they are usually described as draught animals in front of ladder wagons or small carts.
The cleverness and curiosity of goats
In fact, goats are intelligent, adaptive and affectionate animals. They quickly become tame and also seek out human carers.
Goats are beautiful, proud, vindictive and also funny. The goat not only gets along well with humans, it can also develop a deep friendship with animals.
The goat is far removed from the dumb goat. Their emotional world corresponds to the sensitive emotional world of horses, sheep and primates. They are able to recognise the feelings of their conspecifics, and express their feelings to each other through their voice.
Goats like to walkwith humans. It is extremely relaxing to walk along a path with a goat. Humans learn from goats to get used to a slow pace and thus find relaxation.
Hope, Burli and Angelo were young lawnmowers on four legs
Not only sheep, but also adorable goats like Hope, Burli and Angelo are used as lawn mowers or landscape gardeners. Somehow, however, the owner of the three pretty billy goats wanted nothing more to do with the live lawnmowers and wanted to have them slaughtered.
The three billy goats are now neutered and live at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf. Our goat girls Lola and Betty in particular are delighted with the new addition to the goat pen. It didn’t take long for the three brown and black goats to be welcomed and accepted into the herd of Henndorf goats.
People should consider:
"If you don't respect the dignity of animals, you can't take it away from them, but you lose your own."
