Sheep Hampti Tampti
Hampti Tampti leads a happy life despite her disability
Life was difficult right from the start - but Hamti Tamti won't give up!
Every day Hampti Tampti shows us that there is a little fighter in him.
Whether for humans or animals – sometimes the start of life can be problematic right from the beginning. The fact is that not everything can always be “straightforward and perfect”. The majority of the rescued animals at our sanctuaries have learnt to deal with their handicaps and enjoy a life full of joy.
The shock was deep – Hampti Tampti was born, but …
Resuscitation brought the little one back to life
Hampti Tampti was lifted up by his hind legs so that his body was hanging vertically. This process was accompanied by a heart massage. Almost half an hour was to pass before Hampti Tampti began to breathe.
The right shoulder blade was broken due to the difficult birth
The little sheep was unable to stand up on its own due to the damaged shoulder, so the vet had to take further steps. The broken shoulder was stabilised with the help of a bandage. Unfortunately, the bandage was too long on the joint and so the front foot and the knee joint stiffened. The people were desperate, but they spared no expense and called a physiotherapist for the little baby sheep. It seemed too late, the tendons were already too shortened.
The three children of the sheep owners did not give up on Hampti Tampti
The baby sheep was also very weak due to the difficult start in life and was unable to drink from mum Alice’s udder. Hampti Tampti was therefore given a bottle. The family’s 13-year-old son in particular took great care of the baby sheep and would have loved to take it into his bed just to make sure that his little friend wanted for nothing. Even at night, the boy got up to feed the needy patient every hour.

Alice was no longer suitable for breeding
Half of the udder had become diseased and was no longer giving milk. Unfortunately, it was no longer possible to continue breeding with the pretty mum in this condition and there is always a lack of space in the sheepfold anyway.
The special story of Hampti Tampti and his mum Alice’s suffering did not leave the owners’ three children unscathed. They loved the little sheep family dearly and so the parents did not have the heart to drive the animals to the slaughterhouse.
The email to Gut Aiderbichl was desperate and yet full of hope.
“… And since we and the kids have grown fond of the two sheep due to their special story of suffering, we would be happy if we could get support from you. Even if they are impaired, …”.
Alice and her Hampti Tampti now live at Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf. Our animal carers also work physiotherapeutically with Hampti Tampti’s shortened right leg. He patiently co-operates every time and never gives up. Despite his difficulties, he is bursting with joie de vivre and always shows people how well he copes with his handicap. We wish the brave sheep many more good years in the Aiderbichl sheep group and thank the children who have lovingly and sacrificially looked after him so that their little baby sheep with the handicap can lead a beautiful animal life despite everything.
