Cortessa and Nemisis
human fate brought the horses to Henndorf
For many years, Cortessa and Nemisis accompanied a Viennese vet. They trusted each other and enjoyed the woman’s loving treatment of them, but an event in the vet’s life was to abruptly change the lives of the three friends.
It was not a lack of love and care that led to the two horses being given a new home at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf. It was desperation and a lack of financial means.
An aortic aneurysm made the move unavoidable
After the health catastrophe, the vet’s ordeal began.
All therapies are not covered by the state – thecosts mustbe borne by the woman in need of care herself. All of this was no longer affordablein terms of strength or finances. The decision had been made: the two beloved horses needed a new home. There was no way back
The vet wanted her two pets in the care of Gut Aiderbichl and contacted Dieter Ehrengruber, who immediately agreed to take in Cortessa and Nemisis. Perhaps it was the memory of the day when Michael Aufhauser was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm? Perhaps it was the past few years that reminded Dieter Ehrengruber of how a person’s life can suddenly take a completely different direction in the space of a second and nothing is the same again?
It was probably a mixture of both: Michael Aufhauser’s illness and his love for animals that made Dieter Ehrengruber immediately accept the vet’s call for help.
The red halter - the symbol of belonging to Gut Aiderbichl
The philosophy of Gut Aiderbichl is that we look and help where we can. We see animal rescue as our duty to the living being, and when we help the animal, we also help the human being.
Cortessa and Nemisis arrived at the estate in Henndorf in the transporter. Twelve-year-old Cortessa and twenty-one-year-old Nemisis were excited and looked curiously out of the van windows.
The stable was prepared. Fresh straw and hay, carrots and apples awaited the two new arrivals. Cortessa and Nemisis ran excitedly from the outside stable to the inside box and back again. Then the typical Aiderbichl ceremony of the animals living here began: donkeys, goats, sheep, Bernadette, one of the free-range pigs, Frieda the mallard duck – they all came to greet Cortessa and Nemisis.
At last, the animal keepers came with two new, red halters and put them on Cortessa and Nemisis. All is well. Cortessa and Nemisis have now been integrated into a group where they feel very comfortable.
Cortessa and Nemisis will never forget their long-time owner. Because: once we humans are in the hearts of our animals, we stay there. Forever.
