Stella horse
The first breath of freedom
After 15 years of torment, Stella the horse is on her way to a better life.
It is cold and dark in the stable. Moisture creeps up the walls. The hooves are deep in their own faeces and dirt. The water is mouldy and stale. It reads like a thriller – but it is Stella’s reality. The mare is kept like a prisoner.
Sick and abused as a broodmare
But it’s not just the care of the horse that is more than questionable – Stella has a serious health problem: she can barely breathe. Even at rest, she makes a distinct nasal noise. Her breathing is so difficult that she has to sleep standing up for years. Yet despite her poor state of health, she has been kept in foal for over 15 years without interruption and abused as a broodmare. How can this be possible? Ist es Profitgier?
Stella should be able to breathe again
When the veterinary office finally intervenes, Stella is severely emaciated. She first has to be nursed back to health at Gut Aiderbichl. But for us, the most important thing is that Stella should finally be able to breathe again! An examination by the vet shows that a laryngeal disease is the cause of her shortness of breath. This has already damaged her heart.
A time of hope and trepidation
The only way to help Stella is a tracheotomy, an operation to cut out her windpipe. She is given a permanent, artificial tracheostomy to make it easier for her to breathe. The operation goes well – but we can’t breathe a sigh of relief just yet! Shortly after the operation, however, the changeable spring weather makes things difficult for her. Colic brings Stella to the edge of her strength.
We didn't fight to give up!
We are doing everything in our power to give her the life she has had to wait so long for – even if the necessary treatments involve enormous costs. We have given around 25,000 euros to give Stella a second chance. Because at Gut Aiderbichl, we don’t abandon any animal!
Stella finally gets a worthy equine life
Thanks to the best medical care, she can now leave the clinic a few weeks later. Stella deserves it. She had to endure so much suffering at the hands of humans. We are all the happier to be able to give her back a piece of equine life, even though she will need medical care forever.
Despite the bad circumstances of her life so far, Stella is a very compatible and calm horse with a lot of will to live. She will be a valuable addition to our group of horses.
