Dog Puki
"I am looking for a new home, I am aggressive with children, my name is Puki and I was born on 28/11/2021"
From the perspective of Gut Aiderbichl
(written by Gisela Pschenitschnig)
Puki's story is a horrific one, gets under your skin and is inexcusable. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of abandoned animals on this earth every year. Take five minutes and ask yourself how to experience disrespectful behavior as an animal-loving human being and as an affected animal:
Puki, a mongrel with curly, snow-white fur and faithful, questioning googly eyes, was found by a lady at the Salzach lakes. He was wearing a harness with a note attached to it:
"I am looking for a new home, I am aggressive to children, my name is Puki..."
The lady took Puki into her home and wanted to place him on her own, but after consulting with the public order office, she was informed that she would have to keep him for four weeks, as the owners could still come forward. Keeping the abandoned dog was not possible for her and she turned to the Salzburg animal shelter. There was no free capacity for Puki there. The shelter advised her to contact Gut Aiderbichl. After consultation with the public order office, Puki will spend the next four weeks in the care of Gut Aiderbichl.
What does cruelty to animals mean?
Who puts an animal somewhere like an unwanted thing, abandoning it...commits according to §38 penal provisions of the Animal Protection Act (current legislation)a punishable act. According to "Ombudsstelle" an administrative fine of up to €7,500 is imposed, or in severe cases imprisonment is foreseen (to be read in the animal protection law).
Puki seeks contact with people
Puki is a very docile, playful and extremely affectionate dog who, despite everything that people have done to him, seeks contact with people. Our keepers notice absolutely no aggressiveness in Puki - whether it is meeting adults or children. But, there is something where little Puki makes problems: that is big men with broad shoulders. There he becomes restless, goes into cover, and shows absolute fear behavior.
If you walk across the yard of Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf and you meet a small, snow-white dog, with dark googly eyes and an animal keeper, then you have the honor of meeting Puki.
The greatness and moral progress of a nation can be measured by how they treat their animals."
Mahatma Gandhi
For me, the abandoned Puki is the proof of how great animals are in forgiving. A human being cannot be so mean to an animal that forgive and continue to walk the path of life with humans.
Sincerely, your Gisela
