Jason's diary
Jason - a dog who has learnt to love life
Jason’s best friend lives in Germany, is a great animal lover and she couldn’t get the fate of the Greek street dog Jason out of her mind. For years she was in contact with a German teacher in Greece. She campaigned for cats and dogs in need and one day she saw the video of Jason.
Jason – the former hunting dog
He was staying near the German teacher’s property and was in a miserable state of health. He had probably been used as a hunting dog, was no longer suitable for hunting and had therefore been abandoned. The owner was no longer interested in him and had probably thrown him out. Jason’s story must have started like this.
Diagnosis: Leishmaniasis and a shattered front right leg
Jason accepted the food that the German teacher put out for him and he also let himself be caught. However, he didn’t want to give up his excursions and one day had an accident that shattered his right front leg.
Jason faced up to the battle with his health and was soon to meet his girlfriend in Germany.
“The lady was very nice to me. I was shy and didn’t trust people that much, but she was different. I felt that she wanted to help me and, above all, there was always delicious food. I really liked that! – However, my outings were important to me, but after my forays I always liked to come back to my new owner. One day I had an accident and my right leg hurt really badly. Everything was broken and they tried to make the best of it. The car was just faster than me, it was stupid …” .
More friends were waiting at Gut Aiderbichl
Jason travelled from Greece to Germany to visit a great animal lover. It was a dream come true for the animal lover, but fate struck again. The animal lover, who had done everything she could to help and support Jason from afar, no longer had the opportunity to keep Jason with her due to a difficult fate of her own and contacted Gut Aiderbichl.
Dieter Ehrengruber was deeply moved by Jason’s story and wanted to help the dog. He decided to take Jason on as a new member of his personal dog group. Jason quickly got used to the fun group of four-legged friends:
“He’s a really great dog, Jason. And he hasn’t had it easy. Now he’s also come through the operation very well. Jason, come here, my friend!” says Daniel, who looks after Dieter Ehrengruber’s dogs.

Jason's right front leg had to be amputated
The elbow on his right leg had been completely shattered by the accident in Greece and had also grown together crookedly. Jason was in pain every step of the way and unfortunately it was impossible to fully repair the joint. A solution had to be found and the only possible solution to relieve the pain was amputation.
Jason’s new technical friend is the prosthesis: the thing
“I have almost no more pain. That’s really great. But what’s this, please?” – Jason seemed to ask when he was fitted with the prosthesis.
Of course, the prosthesis was a foreign body and Jason is learning more and more every day how to deal with it.

“So it’s interesting. I have three legs in the house and when Daniel leaves the house with me and the dogs, he smiles at me, holds a treat in front of my snout and puts my prosthesis on.
At first I thought to myself: what is this? Does this have to be real? But Daniel stuck to his guns: the prosthesis was put on before leaving the house to go for a walk.
It’s really interesting how I learnt to walk, run and move around with this thing. I’m getting better at walking day by day. And most importantly, I’m no longer in pain and I can even hop a bit with this thing.
Now I already have a lot of human friends: the lady in Greece, the one in Germany, Daniel and Dieter Ehrengruber, who always asks: So, how’s our Jason? You’re doing great, let’s have a look!”.
Three own and one technical leg and a happy Jason
Jason is learning to have more fun and enjoy playing and running around with Dieter Ehrengruber’s 16 dogs every day. He is happy, pain-free and loves his life.
Jason also loves goats. When he walks along the dog path in Henndorf with his friends and hears a goat bleating, he becomes very alert. We’re sure he’ll manage to race the herd of goats one day.
Pure joie de vivre despite his handicap
His handicap does not prevent him from living a happy life. Jason has accepted his fate and his eyes are as bright as those of Dieter Ehrengruber and Daniel.

“You guys are really great. Thanks for the effort and the good life. You’ll hear from me and my adventures again soon and how I’m doing with my “thing”!”,
Your Jason
