On a hot day in July, a young woman discovered a small, black and white cat on the side of the road near Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf. This day was to be a day of destiny for the young cat.
The main question was, why is a cat of about eight weeks old wandering around on the side of the road all alone? There is only one answer: it was assumed that the cat had been abandoned. Far and wide, there was no mother cat or sibling to be found...
Oreo initially walked sickly through his young life
He had many tiny little companions - fleas. Oreo also had ear mites and very watery eyes.
"Oh, it's a shame. I'll just be on my way. My mum? No idea where she is. Now I'll just look along the road and see if I can find something for my growling stomach to eat. Somehow I don't like all that... plastic bottles, cans, cigarette butts....Funny, the humans. I'd love to have mummy cat milk. But somehow I can't find any here."
Oreo was handed over by the young lady to an animal keeper. The kitten barely filled her hand, so tiny and skinny was the little black and white male. First, the scales were set up to know how much the little one weighed. And then the mites and the watery eyes had to be treated.
"Hello human, you are something like a human, aren't you? You are not a cat. You have no claws, but very soft hands. And it's nice and warm here.
My belly is so empty, is there anything to eat?…Oh, what's that now? Ah, something's being done to my ears. Quite pleasant, actually. It's OK.
After the care and medical attention, Oreo was fed and it was obvious that the little purr cat must have been terribly hungry.
"Stomach massage, oh, that's very pleasant. I notice that I am somehow getting very...tired. What is it now? Uichen, such a nice, soft blanket. Ah, it's so cosy and warm here. Now I can finally sleep, because there's also someone here to look after me."
Little Oreo developed very well and was soon in good health.
Cats have a sense of where they are doing well
Oreo was now healthy, he no longer had to live on the street. Nevertheless, we had the impression that the cat was looking for something. He didn't like it when the animal caretakers left the cat room. Oreo wanted to go to a family - that was the solution. And a wonderful human family was found, with whom Oreo has now found a special foster place and can live happily and contentedly.

Animals, that we have domesticated, do not deserve to be abandoned. Oreo and many other velvet paws that were even abandoned at the car park of Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf wanted to stay with their humans. Life with fellow creatures, whether human or animal, is like a big puzzle: each piece has a right to live and must be treated with respect.
