Little puppies in great need!
It was a cold, windy Tuesday in Romania. The Gut Aiderbichl team started,as they do every day, with the feedingofover 140 dogs. There was a lot on the agenda that day. Dogs had to be prepared for their departure, mamedogs had to be takento the vet. Es had to be cleaned up and some needed their medicine. Of course, thepettingmust not be missing.
Suddenly the dogs barked, because someone was at the door. When animal keeper Nicky opened the door, she already suspected what the visitor wanted. A man had come and told her that he had to hand over five puppies immediately. He didn’t want them, but he wanted to keep their mother.
The man opened the boot and there they were, five little puppies in an orange tub. Nicky immediately realised that the puppies were still far too small to be separated from their mother. They were still dependent on their mother’s milk and care. Nicky tried to resolve the situation and asked for the puppies’ mum.
The man didn’t seem to have any patience andsaid: “Are you going to take the puppies or not? Otherwise I’ll just abandon them somewhere.” There was absolutely no question that the man meant his threat. So we took the little puppies into our care with heavy hearts. Our experienced team knows what to do in such moments. Immediately puppymilk was provided and everyone providedmilk. set themselvesfor long days andnights, to raise the babiesby bottle. The kittensare hungry and want to be fedoften and at short intervals. We hoped for a miracle and gave a lot of thought to how we could solve the situation.
Apparently, we weren’t the only ones who had been worried. A few hours after the puppies had moved into Gut Aiderbichl Romania, the man came back: adesperate and frightened mother dog in the back seat. We are thankful, that now the dog mumand her puppies are reunited and that the puppies can be lovingly raised by her.
Despite all the love and care at Gut Aiderbichl, we are always looking for a place of their own for our dogs and are therefore always happy to receive private enquiries about taking them in. But such a move to their new home can be very challenging for the dogs and often presents them and their owners with huge problems. It therefore requires patience, love and good preparation. Once humans and animals have settled in well, they have made wonderful friends for life.
