Two Romanian bitches take their fate into their "paws"
Lotte and Pearl - two Romanian bitches take their fate in their "paws"
There has been a Gut Aiderbichl in Romania for several years. In the meantime, hundreds of dogs have been taken in, treated and then rehomed. Most of them are strays that are hit by cars or arrive at the gates of Gut Aiderbichl in Romania for other reasons. Sometimes the dogs are simply thrown over the fence…..
Many Romanian dog fates tighten the animal-loving heart and it is difficult to find an answer to why some people let animals suffer or sometimes even wilfully hurt and torture them.
Lotte from Romania
Together with her sister, Lotte, who is about one year old, presumably wanted to cross a road. Unsuspecting anything bad, they tried to cross to the other side of the road and were hit by a car.
One day after the accident, the dog’s owners contacted Gut Aiderbichl Romania and asked for help. Lotte’s life was hanging by a thread, her sister had unfortunately already died from her serious injuries.
Lotte’s little body was more likely already in the afterlife
The vet checked the reflexes on her legs and along her spine. Lotte had her eyes closed and barely showed any movement.
We didn’t give up and tried to save Lotte’s young dog’s life gently and with every trick in the book. The wounds were cleaned and treated. Lotte slowly opened her beautiful saucer eyes and perhaps wanted to see who was doing her some good? She let herself be stroked and probably felt that the humans only meant well with her.
Lotte races the other dogs in a wheelchair
A small wheelchair was made and she walks through her young life with the help of her front paws with a zest for life as if she had never experienced it any other way.
There is hope that the paralyses on her hind legs will subside. Lotte endeavours to stand at the food bowl, which still takes a lot of strength.

Pearl (Sissi) - she lets herself be stroked again and walks on three legs
The little mixed-breed dog Pearl, now called Sissi, is five years old and also suffered a terrible accident. Her right front leg was caught in an animal trap and she was left at the dog shelter seriously injured. Sissi’s right leg could no longer be saved and had to be amputated.
It was only after six weeks that the adorable little dog allowed her human to stroke her. Over time, Sissi has overcome her fears and insecurities and even licks the hands of her rescuers, albeit still a little cautiously.
Sissi quickly learnt to accept her fate and runs along with the other dogs on her three little legs.
How brave the animals are
At Gut Aiderbichl in Romania, hardly a day goes by without a dog being handed in injured or lying half-dead outside the gate.
The colleagues in Romania spay and neuter stray dogs and cats and are slowly changing people’s mindsets that animal suffering can be avoided by spaying and neutering alone.
Like Lotte and Sissi, dozens of dogs in our shelter in Romania are waiting for loving people who will give them a special foster place. Our dogs from Romania have already brought a lot of joy to families.
They are grateful animals – grateful that they are accepted just as they are: sometimes with a handicap.
Maybe you would like to give a Romanian dog a new home? Herzlichst, Ihre Gisela.
