Mixed-breed dog Hexi mixes everyone up

Hexi is about seven and a half years old and a Havanese crossbreed. Our little Hexi’s coat is brown-black with white paws and light-coloured facial and muzzle hair. Hexi was confiscated because the elderly owner was becoming increasingly overwhelmed with his little dog.

When people get older ...

Older people often only have one friend left: their pet. Be it a cat, a parrot or a budgie, or an adorable dog like Hexi.

The owner was over 80 years old and caring for, walking and, of course, playing with Hexi was becoming increasingly difficult. Unfortunately, the dog had to be confiscated. Hexi travelled to her new forever home at Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf.

Do dogs miss their masters and mistresses?

Dogs from animal rescue centres, abandoned dogs or dogs surrendered for whatever reason arrive at Gut Aiderbichl time and time again. Each dog has its own life story. Most of them have one thing in common: they lived with a person who once took them in, loved and cared for them until fate turned the steering wheel.

The Aiderbichl dog carers are very familiar with the body language of four-legged friends. Hexi was a little quieter at first and was probably thinking about her owner. More and more her barking shows what she wants, then she barks. She is a small but very self-confident dog. Hexi certainly loved her owner – she won’t tell us whether she misses him.

Hexi's best furry friend is Neema

Neema came to Henndorf as part of the Romanian stray dog project. She has paralysed hind legs and enjoys using her “doggy Porsche” to get around. As fast as the wind, she ran across the yard with Archie, who died a few weeks ago. After he didn’t come home from the vet clinic, we had a very sad Neema. Every day she looked for him in the yard. Maybe he was just lost – but Archie won’t be coming back.

Hexi’s zest for life also brought Neema back to her usual vigour. They now run around the yard together with the dog groomer and enjoy their walks. Perhaps two friends for life have found each other here.
A second great friend of Neema’s is the play ball. Hexi often wants to be faster than the rolling ball – these are moments when Hexi is simply happy.

Animals may not be able to write the word love, but they can show it wonderfully. "That a dog is my favourite thing, you say, O man, is a sin?". The dog remained faithful to me in the storm, the man not even in the wind.
