A real summer highlight:

Our baby sheep Peter and Pan

Surprises of this kind are always a reason for joy at Gut Aiderbichl: Eva the pet sheep moved into Gut Aiderbichl Iffeldorf at the beginning of the year – with a wonderful surprise in her luggage.

Domestic sheep can live to be around 12 years old on average. With her 9 years, Eva has already reached a proud age. She was categorised as “no longer suitable” for breeding. But the great thing is: with animals, you experience something new every day!

Turn one into three!

Even the former owner, a breeder, had not expected this. Over the course of the spring, Eva’s belly bulged more and more. At the end of May, we had certainty: Eva was pregnant! Sheep are about five months pregnant, and as Eva had come to us in January, she must have been mated shortly before. The informed breeder was surprised himself. Who knows what would have happened to Eva if her pregnancy had been recognised earlier. She would probably have spent a few more years as a breeding ewe. But as it was, she was able to enjoy her pregnancy at Gut Aiderbichl. Here she could retreat to lambing and find the peace and quiet she needed for the birth.

At the beginning of June, Peter and Pan saw the light of day

For our animal keepers at Gut Aiderbichl Iffeldorf, it was a case of waiting and seeing. At the beginning of June, the time had finally come: two lively baby sheep were born. Eva immediately started licking the two little rams, Peter and Pan, because sheep have a very keen sense of smell. Each lamb has its own unique odour, which the mothers memorise when licking the lambs. This enables them to recognise their babies even in a large flock. Of course, the voice also helps, as each animal has a unique sound and the pairs memorise the respective voices. Ist die Natur nicht grandios?

Summer highlight at Gut Aiderbichl Iffeldorf

Our two summer highlights are already out and about, keeping mum Eva and our animal keepers on their toes. You can already visit them at Gut Aiderbichl in Iffeldorf – but be careful not to lose your heart to them. Sie sind zuckersüß!
