Peppa and her four piglets
A happy pig family
Peppa is probably a Duroc-mix pot-bellied pig. The Duroc domestic pig originally comes from the USA and is a cross between red Jersey pigs and European Iberico pigs that is around 250 years old. Peppa is about 1 year old and has given birth to four adorable piglets. Until they were discovered by their young rescuer, they spent their lives protected in an old barn. A young girl regularly visited the farm for the horses and learnt that Peppa and her young were to be slaughtered. She begged her father to help the animals and contact Gut Aiderbichl.
Katja’s family were not allowed to keep pigs in their garden, so she was delighted that Dieter Ehrengruber agreed to take in the young pig family. The animal-loving people fed the new mum and her milk-squealing mini-babies until the day they were collected. The girl longed for the day when the animals would finally be loaded into the Aiderbichler transporter and taken to a safe new home.
From the barn to Gut Aiderbichl
The animal rescuers lured Peppa into a large box with the best treats in the world and carried her into the Aiderbichl animal transporter. The four little piglets looked nervously and uncertainly after their mum, and as quickly as possible they tried to catch the pig girls Ginger and Sugar and the pig boys Vanilla and Spicy and bring them to their mother. Once again we were able to experience the fear of loss that animals can have. All was well, and the journey towards Henndorf could begin.
Family in the pig palace
When they arrived at the estate, the bristly inhabitants of the pig palace were waiting for the new arrivals. Pigs are known to be highly intelligent and they sensed that something was going on. A large pigsty had been cleaned and lined thickly with fresh straw.
Followed by their rescuers, Peppa and her babies strolled into the warm stable, snuffling and squealing. Peppa lay down in the straw and Ginger, Vanilla, Sugar and Spicy snuggled up close to their mum’s warm belly.
Peppa loves people
Maybe she’s just grateful that she and her babies didn’t have to die? She loves people more than anything. As soon as Peppa hears voices, she stands up at the stable door and wants to see who is visiting her. Peppa has the sweetest smile in the world and her eyes sparkle with those of the humans.
With Peppa, Ginger, Vanilla, Sugar and Spicy, a new, young, rescued happiness has moved into the pig palace in Henndorf. We wish them a long, healthy and happy life in their new home at Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf.
